SEC gives greenlight to Hashdex Nasdaq and Franklin Templeton Cboe crypto index ETFs
The SEC has authorized Hashdex and Franklin Templeton’s combined spot-based Bitcoin and Ethereum exchange-traded funds (ETFs), according to a document released on Thursday.
The approvals apply to the Hashdex Nasdaq Crypto Index US ETF and the Franklin Templeton Crypto Index ETF. According to the regulator, Nasdaq and Cboe BZX have proposed rule amendments for listing and trading shares of these products.
The products will include Bitcoin and Ethereum with an 80/20 average weighting, with potential for future additions.
Nasdaq submitted a revised proposal for a Hashdex crypto index ETF in September, after its first submission in May.
Franklin Templeton, on the other hand, has been working on this ETF since September when it first proposed it.
Cboe BZX’s amended file, submitted earlier Thursday, gained fast clearance since it adhered to current commodity-based trust share rules.
Bloomberg analyst Eric Balchunas predicts the goods will launch in January.
The SEC’s decision demonstrates the lessening of tensions between the agency and the cryptocurrency sector ahead of Donald Trump’s inauguration in January.
Furthermore, the clearance verifies Balchunas’ projection on Tuesday about a fresh wave of ETFs. Balchunas projected that Bitcoin and Ethereum ETFs will be approved first, then Litecoin (LTC) and HBAR ETFs.
